It's a funny thing...

It's a funny thing that when I started fly fishing it was all about trout and then salmon and wouldn't care less about pike or any other lake fish. Now I spend most of my fishing time here in Finland fishing for pike or any other fish that will bite my fly on the local lake's. Maybe it's just that when you've travelled all over the world fishing for various species you start looking at your local fishing differently? The quality of the trout rivers here in southern Finland is so poor that I just don't have a lot of intrest to fish them and when I do fish them it has to be done in the "off-season" to avoid the crowds. By "off-season" I mean the time when the rivers have not been stocked lately.

Fortunately I haven't lost intrest in Atlantic salmon fishing. It is still a sport that really excites me. There's just something special about it. I just hope that in the future there will still be places to do that hobby, because it's getting harder and harder every year to get licences to intresting rivers. Well, we will see how it goes.

It's also funny that before I just viewed casting as a part of fishing and would only "practice" my cast while fishing. Now a days practicing my casting is a big part of the big picture and I do it almost as often as fishing. It really is funny.

"The material is called Nayat or Snow Runner"

  BIG 10inch fly with a Nayat+flash front part. The title is the answer to about 50% of fly tying material related questions I get online. Even though Nayat has been around for a while it's only now starting to get wide spread international interest and you can get a lot more useful information on how to properly use it. I'm hoping that this small article will be among the most useful ones. So what is Nayat? From what I know it's a specific goat or sheep breed. Unfortunately I don't know anything more about it's origins.  The fur ranges from semi soft to semi coarse (overall its a pretty soft fur) and it retains water. The magic thing about Nayat however is that it sheds water substantially faster than other soft furs. Top-5 products of the year

Had a lot of new gear on the water this year and there's been some that have been a bit dissapointing, but most of the new gear have been really, really good. Don't want to thrash around and mention the dissapointments, so I'll just keep things positive and do a top-5. I was unable to work out a exact order on the things I liked the most, so don't worry about the order that the gear are mentioned. If I wouldn't be so lazy I would do a top-10 as there was lots of cool stuff around this year to choose from. Vision 10'11" #8 switch rod: When I first got my hands on this rod it just instantly felt right. The handles(grips) are pretty much perfect for my taste and they suit my hands better then any other switch rod handles. The blank looks good and the overall quality is top notch.
